At least once a year, a horror movie comes out of nowhere and becomes an obsession. This year, an early contender coincidentally happens to be titled Obsession. If you’ve heard people talking about this modern take on “be careful what you wish for,” keep reading to learn how to watch Obsession ASAP or stream it at home.

Obsession, directed by sketch comedian Curry Barker, stars Michael Johnston from Teen Wolf as a guy named Bear who makes a wish on a toy called a One Wish Willow. He wishes for his childhood friend/crush, played by Inde Navarrette from Superman & Lois, to fall in love with him. There’s a reason that the genie from Aladdin made a rule against this type of wish, y’all! Things get crazy bad crazy fast. Obsessive love already makes for creepy stories and this is so much worse.

How can I watch this movie?

Obsession came out in theaters on May 15, 2026. I’m not a huge horror movie person, but even I know that it’s better to watch movies like Obsession in the theater. That way, you can all laugh together when you get jump-scared. Or scream together! Or yell at an imminent victim’s bad decision-making skills together.

When will it be streaming?

It will likely be several months before Obsession gets added to a streaming service. Since it’s a Focus Features and Universal Pictures release, it will most likely end up on Peacock. A recent film from those studios, called The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist, came out in theaters on March 26, 2026 and is on Peacock as of the theatrical release of Obsession. So, that means it will be at least two months. At some point, likely in June or early July, you’ll be able to rent it at home.

But why would you do that in a place where a One Wish Willow could tempt you into ruining your own life? If you’re able, see Obsession in theaters.
